2011 Best Street Style

My foray into style critiquing continues with a list of the best dressed style seen on the street in 2011. The following women best embody the phrase "all the world's a stage...." and moreover, inspire me to not wear sweatpants every day.

Caroline Sieber, for her 21st century
version of the pantsuit
Elin Kling, for her sleek minimalism
Elisa Nalin, for these sequin pants
Hanne Gaby Odiele, for making pajama
pants and a kimono look badass
Miranda Kerr, for perfecting the
model - and mom - off-duty look
Frida Gustavasson, for looking chic and
comfortable at the same time
Sarah Rutson, for being the model business
woman in terms of style and success
Shala Monroque, for always having the
most incredible combinations of
accessories and colour
Julia Sarr-Jamois, for the neon and the 'fro

And finally, of course...

Anna Dello Russo, for her never-ending
originality and confidence

Please keep inspiring us in 2012
Signed,
All the normal people out there

2011's Best Dresses

Because I fashion myself a mix of Joan Rivers, Stacy London, and Steven Cojocaru, I feel that this gives me the authority to compile a list of the ten best dresses of the year. The only description that would do these dresses justice is beyond enviable (nipped waist could also apply). So here they are, in no particular order as that would require too much thinking for my brain, which is currently on vacation. Beautiful dresses (and the women who wore them), I salute you!

Kate Middleton in Alexander McQueen
Zoe Saldena in Vionnet
Kirsten Dunst in Derek Lam
Miranda Kerr in Peter Pilotto
Emma Stone in Calvin Klein
Diane Krueger in Jason Wu
Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen
Clémence Poésy in Chanel
Keira Knightly in Valentino
Kate Moss in Galliano

You're In: Work Onesie

If you're fortunate enough to work at a place with a liberal dress code such as I do, then an essential part of your work wardrobe should be the work onesie (work onesie [wurk wuhnsee]: a jumper that is acceptable for the work place). Work onesies offer the ultimate level of comfort without making one look like a total slob in front of one's boss. And they're perfect for days when you're a little under the weather (such as the day after the office Christmas party) or when you simply feel like not being productive. The onesie I found below is from Haltson Heritage and I got it at 80% off from the Bay back in the summer. It has seriously changed my life. I no longer have to resort to leggings when I want to be comfortable at work. And gone are the days when I turn to my lululemons as a travel outfit (yes, the work onesie also functions as a travel onesie). Work onesies are a serious investment piece.

(please excuse the awkward posing below - I don't do this often - and focus on the shit that matters, that being the onesie)

The thing that one must remember is that not every onesie can be a work onesie. Strapless onesies and onesies with spaghetti straps are not acceptable unless the top is covered up with a cute cardigan or blazer. Also, remember that onesies look a lot better when paired with heeled shoes (so no one can argue that you're not putting in effort). I'm sure everyone would love to sport the work onesie that Virginie Courtin-Clarins was wearing the other day however, not everyone can afford Louis Vuitton. So here are more reasonable work onesies that I found on various sites.

New Week, New Thangs

Why wait until the new year? Take advantage of the fresh start of the new week by trying the following things:

Make Christmas sweaters look acceptable by sporting them with denim cutoffs (add tights if you live in colder climates).

Think about this, this holiday season.

Go full-out with a holiday-themed manicure.
(found here, here, and here)

Instead of listening to the ear-assault that is this for Christmas music, listen to the soothing sounds of Sufjan.

Attempt some DIY projects, such as the ones found on A Beautiful Mess and A Pair & A Spare, in lieu of buying last-minute gifts. Bonus points for incorporating neon!

Do this to anyone, friends, family, even your cat

Indulge on as many treats as you can fit into your mouth. Achieving Karlie Kloss' body is one thing that can wait until the new year.

This is Getting Out of Hand...

Ok so my love of all things neon is starting to turn into an obsession which will inevitably turn into a stalker-like relationship. SO to end things before it gets bad, I present these crazy cool neon bags from Christoper Kane (and it really doesn't help that all the neon goods with which I'm obsessed are totally out of my price point). They're exclusively found on Net-a-Porter and they're are oh tasty and make my heart beat quickly.
Ok so that's it.....I will not discuss neon for the next month, week, day, hour, who I am kidding, my love is too strong. Every post from now on will feature this glorious tone, peeps will just have to deal.

The Gift Paradox

 Sometimes I feel like this....

but other times I just wanna do this....

Which leads me to the paradox - what do you get a girl whose style is at the crossroads between polished femininity and disco raver? The answer: the best of both worlds. Below you'll find a collection of the best gifts to give a girl who can't decide between a life of pearls and a life of neon (a more common predicament than you'd think).

Pre-Fall! Pre-Fall! Pre-Fall!

Although seemingly not as significant as the Fall and Spring RTW collections, the current batch of Pre-Fall 2012 collections are killin' it. First Burberry and now Thakoon, Rag & Bone, Chanel, and Reed Krakoff. And then there's Theyskens' Theory. JE-SUS. Can all of the following outfits just jump out of the computer screen and on to my body? That would make my Monday so much better.
